Entertaiment — the act of entertaining; agreeable occupation for the mind; diversion; amusement: Solving a crossword puzzle provides entertainment for many people. Entertainment is a significant part of children’s activities, as it prepares them for adulthood (through the imitative learning of performance, child rearing and group games); develops motor skills needed for sports and music; and teaches social interaction through toys and playing with dolls or pets.
The stories of Scheherazade, from the Persian professional storytelling tradition, are powerful examples of entertainment: composers Rimsky-Korsakov, Ravel and Szymanowski wrote orchestral works based on the story; director Pasolini made a film adaptation; and now there is an innovative video game.
