Entertaiment relates to the experience of pleasure. It is often associated with amusement, although many entertainments may also be serious or have a moral purpose – such as a religious festival or a political satire. Entertainments can be enjoyed on any scale – from a private evening of music or a meal for two, to a family gathering with a video game; from an audience at a concert, to a global television broadcast. The capacity for entertainment to cross over into different media is demonstrated by the way that stories like Scheherazade, an example of professional storytelling, have been adapted in musical works by Rimsky-Korsakov and Ravel and in films by Pasolini and others, as well as in innovative computer games.
