Whether it’s the clown at the birthday party, the Broadway show, the stadium rock concert or your friends fighting over that last potato chip, Entertaiment is something we all use. It is our amusement, the distraction that takes us out of ourselves into a world of euphoria where we forget about all our problems and wish that this moment would never end. The word comes from the old French entretenir meaning to support or entertain, originally associated with hospitality. From there it shifted to mean the amusement or distraction. It’s an amazing thing that entertainment forms are so cross-over. From the TV shows to the movies to your iPod, everything has been remixed and re-used in new ways. This has kept the entertainment industry a profitable enterprise.
